THE ARTIST

Susan Kelley completed a Bachelor of Science degree in psychology from Northern Arizona University, with a minor in art. Her fascination with art brought her to California State University, Long Beach, where she received her Master of Arts degree in drawing and painting in 1981.

Susan’s graduate and postgraduate studies included work in portraiture, illustration, and graphic design with sojourns in Europe for independent study in larger galleries and museums.

In addition to private portrait commissions for an international clientele, Susan has done illustrations for such clients as Reader’s Digest, McDonald Charities, Los Angeles Children’s Hospital, NBC Television, California State University, Galoob Toys, Maranatha! Music, National Medical Home Care, Memorial Hospital Long Beach, and Wherehouse Records.

Susan is a versatile artist, known for her colors and painterly style, and her sensitive renditions of people. Her original art has been on display in Los Angeles exhibitions at the Museum of Science and Industry; Foote, Cone and Belding; the Fashion Institute; and California State University.

Susan lives in California with her husband, Kevin Harkey—a successful cartoonist—and their two children.
