A miscellany of reflections, thoughts, articles by Jonathan Gallagher, mirroring his interest in "God-thinking," the cosmic conflict, and fundamental human rights
“Thanks for taking the time to look around. I hope you find ideas of interest that will make a difference in the way you think and believe—thoughts to challenge the way we are! I believe in a healthy curiosity, and that we are supposed to use our minds to work things out. It’s not enough to rely on the thoughts of others—we all need to think for ourselves.
"So I’m delighted at your interest, and may you discover some points of departure so that you can say that you know what you believe, and are 'fully persuaded in your own mind.’”

Early Easter Sunday. The air is thick and cold; mist still curls around the forest edge.
I come to look, to see, and with my eyes seek understanding.

Today we stacked wood. All of us, the whole family. Now tired, but satisfied, we relax inside. Daughter Rebekah snuggles close: “Now we’ll be nice and warm and cuddly for the whole winter.” She wriggles comfortably at the thought.

Yet an activity of hope, of expectation. Because we hope to see the winter through.

Have you contemplated how much of your life is unreal? Strange thought, perhaps, but consider.
How much time do watch TV? Or videos? Or other similar reality substitutes like computer games. Or even fantasy books, escapist literature of all kinds... Today's term is virtual reality. It looks real, it sounds real, it feels real--but it's not.

Bear hunt! The idea sounded exciting. Finally, we were ready. Launching out from the dock near Sitka, Alaska, we headed up the coast of Baranov Island. My eyes took in the spectacular scenery of evergreens marching down to the sea, distant mountains, ethereal islands in the distance. Bald eagles circled round, while on the sea we scattered murres and murrelets as we passed.
We slipped into Nakrasina, an inlet shrouded by larch trees and tall head-high grass. Now this was going to be fun, I told myself. We headed down the path. I took the lead. We were going bear-hunting!

“Hey, mon!” called out a voice. I turned to see a rough-looking Rasta-type in a dirty red T-shirt and ageing jeans. His dreadlocks came to his shoulders. “Got problems?”
I needed help, but I hardly was looking in his direction.
