Jonathan

A miscellany of reflections, thoughts, articles by Jonathan Gallagher, mirroring his interest in "God-thinking," the cosmic conflict, and fundamental human rights

“Thanks for taking the time to look around. I hope you find ideas of interest that will make a difference in the way you think and believe—thoughts to challenge the way we are! I believe in a healthy curiosity, and that we are supposed to use our minds to work things out. It’s not enough to rely on the thoughts of others—we all need to think for ourselves.

"So I’m delighted at your interest, and may you discover some points of departure so that you can say that you know what you believe, and are 'fully persuaded in your own mind.’”

The first was suspicious and caught on right away. No fun there! The next was a little more accepting, but soon saw the scheme. But the last...

Reflections

Turning on the hinge of summer’s end, the day changes to the cool of evening. Already the first yellow leaves are falling in the stillness, reminder notes that winter comes, cold and surely.

But for the moment the warmth remains, and I sit watching children at school. Holidays over, they begin again--back to school. Laughing, smiling in the sun, playing ball. Lives full of promise among the falling leaves. A parable of life—us, ourselves—beings of promise and potential among the curled-up dryness of a dying world.

“Is it supposed to do that?”

An urgent voice—the first sign I was sitting on a plane next to a passenger with a fear of flying. An anxious question, accompanied by a set of white knuckles on the armrest.

“Do what?” I asked. A strange opening move in a conversation, I thought.

“That noise. Is that normal?”

God at the Stoplight PDF Print E-mail
Reflections

The light is green as I drive towards it. I half-anticipate it might turn red, and wonder what I can use the time for if I have to stop. Why not use the time to think God thoughts? a voice says.

Predictably the light turns red just as the car in front of me makes it through. I stop, smiling. So now I do have to pause and think.

“So God, I’m sitting at this red light. Now what?”
