Jonathan

A miscellany of reflections, thoughts, articles by Jonathan Gallagher, mirroring his interest in "God-thinking," the cosmic conflict, and fundamental human rights

“Thanks for taking the time to look around. I hope you find ideas of interest that will make a difference in the way you think and believe—thoughts to challenge the way we are! I believe in a healthy curiosity, and that we are supposed to use our minds to work things out. It’s not enough to rely on the thoughts of others—we all need to think for ourselves.

"So I’m delighted at your interest, and may you discover some points of departure so that you can say that you know what you believe, and are 'fully persuaded in your own mind.’”

Reflections

One of my earliest memories is of a picture that hung in my parents’ bedroom.

A simple countryside scene—of a bright woodland clearing carpeted with bluebells. I remember gazing into that picture for hours when I was really sick with chickenpox. What intrigued me most though was the path that led my eyes into the distance.

Reflections

Andorra! Do I remember Andorra! Ever since I was little I’d wondered about that tiny country sandwiched between Spain and France, too small to be visible on some maps. So when my wife suggested we make a detour through Andorra on the way home from a family vacation in Portugal, I was more than ready.

A quaint little place, high in the mountains. A country not much more than a couple of alpine valleys. But it has plenty of duty-free shops, and even a McDonald’s.

As darkness fell, we headed north to continue our journey across the Pyrenees into France.

Big mistake!

…and they all lived happily ever after.

How the best stories finish. A final statement of comfort and satisfaction, the necessary conclusion to the tale.

But think again.
