So, you are ready to try one of the Pine Knoll talks on the Internet. What's next? What do you do if you have problems? Does it cost anything?
Well, that's what this page is here to answer.

cost
It's free! That is, there is a free version of RealOne Player® (and that is all that you need). If you decide that you want to go all the way and get paid RealOne Player®, it costs around $10 (as of the time this was written) -- although they will also to try to get you to subscribe to a service that would bill you monthly.
Our recommendation is that you try the free RealOne Player® first, and then upgrade if you decide you want the extra features.

installation
First, we should note that you may not need to install anything -- you may already have a player that can handle our RealAudio® files (e.g., the old RealPlayer®). To find out, just choose a talk and press listen to see if it works. If it doesn't find a plug-in to play the file...
- Download RealOne Player®. Press -> here <- to go to the page that will allow you to download RealOne Player®. Although it will focus on trying to get you to buy the full version of RealOne Player®, just choose the link for "Free Player". Even on the page that brings you to you'll need to make sure you grab the free one (it was on the right third of that page as of when this was written).
- Install it. As part of the process of downloading the installation program, you had to choose a file name to Save as. Go ahead and execute this file, choosing options based on your preferences.
- Go for it. You should be all set. Just choose the talk you want to listen to, and touch listen. If you have any problems, please press -> here <-.

troubleshooting
Here are some possible answers to issues you might run into:
- When I press listen, it gives me a Save as file dialog.
You need to download a program to play the file. Please press -> here <- for instructions.- When I play a file I saved to my computer, all I get is silence.
Somehow your download was probably incomplete or corrupted. Please redownload it and try it again. If that doesn work, please e-mail webmaster@pineknoll.org.- My player tells me I can't play this version of a RealMedia® file. All you need to do is upgrade. You can do this by following our installation instructions.
- I've installed RealOne Player®, but it doesn't work right. Hmmm. It's probably time to e-mail webmaster@pineknoll.org and let him know what problem you are running in to.
- RealOne Player® keeps telling me it can't connect. Your Internet Service Provider may be preventing the talks from playing (because of a firewall). Please see the note about choppiness and net congestion below.
- When I listen, the talk is choppy and/or it keeps showing something about net congestion. The path from our server to your computer just can't keep up with the speed at which the talk has to be "served." You may need to download the file instead of listening to it "streamed." There are "file" links for every talk we have on our web site. You should be able to use this link to download the file to your computer for listening (for personal use only, all copyrights remain in effect). The extension of the file should be ".rm", but you may find your computer saving it instead as a ".ram" file. It probably won't matter, but we recommend you change it back to ".rm".
- You don't list my problem. Please e-mail webmaster@pineknoll.org, detailing your issue. The more you can mention, the better (e.g., the browser and version you are you using, whether you are using RealPlayer® or RealOne Player®, etc.)
